on its spiritual intent(Arvo Pärt).’ British born, Hugo has lived in Sweden for the last few years. He has performed extensively in Scandinavia, the UK, Italy, Germany, the USA and the Far East. Beginning his violin studies in London before going to the University of Toronto, Hugo continued to study in Sweden with the Russian violinists, Nina and Oleg Balabina. In addition to many scholarships Hugo has won international competitions: Giovani Talenti and Rovere d’Oro at San Bartolomeo al Mare, Italy (2002), and the Mendelssohn Cup in Bari, Italy (2004). In 2007 he was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music in London, his dissertation entitled “An Exploration of Nostalgia in the works of Beethoven, Brahms and Berg”. Since his debut at the age twelve in the Edinburgh Festival and at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Hugo has performed many concertos with orchestras in England, the USA, Sweden, Romania, Estonia, Japan and Korea. Hugo also gives regular recitals in prestigious halls across Europe and the Far East with pianists such as Leslie Howard, Staffan Scheja, Svetlana Navarssadian, Sophia Rahman, Michael Tsalka and Henrik Måwe. He is regularly invited to music festivals such as the St-Denis-Festival in Paris, the Cervantino in Mexico and the Gotland Chamber Music Festival in Sweden. Hugo is the artistic director of a newly-started music festival O/MODERNT at Ulriksdals Castle Theatre Confidencen, Stockholm (www.festivalomodernt.com). He has broadcast for radio and television in Sweden, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Armenia. In recent years Hugo has given masterclasses and seminars in New Zealand, South Korea, Russia, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan and Italy. While Hugo works with a number of pianists, a frequent piano partner is Michael Tsalka among whose specialisms is as an early keyboard performer; Hugo and Michael give recitals exploring the baroque and classical repertoire using a variety of period keyboard instruments.
Hugo has also embraced the world of contemporary music and he will be performing world
premières of concertos dedicated to him in England, Russia, Romania, Sweden, Mexico and
England over the next few seasons. He also enjoys devising concerts and events that
combine music with the other arts, notably dance and literature. Uniting his passion for
musical experimentation, his wide-ranging intellectual pursuits and his exploration of the
inner landscape of the spirit, Hugo Ticciati is undoubtedly a violinist of unusual
