BBC New Generation Artists 2002As part of its commitment to young artists, BBC Radio 3 launched the New Generation Artists scheme in the autumn of 1999. The Galliard Ensemble were selected as one of six new artists to join the scheme last year. The scheme provides exceptional young artists with a wonderful opportunity to profile themselves on the world's premiere classical music network in wide variety of ways, and is unique - no other scheme in the world offers comparable opportunities. They will be taking part in the scheme for a two year period, during which they will be invited to do studio recordings, give lunchtime concerts both from London (Monday Lunchtime and New Generations series at Wigmore Hall) and the regions, appearances and recordings with the BBC Orchestras, special studio recordings for Radio 3's Morning Performance programme, and last but not least appearances at the Proms. As part of the scheme Radio 3 has also set up a collaborative venture with EMI Classics, which has so far resulted in three co-produced cds in the EMI Debut series, with more in the pipeline. And a number of New Generation Artists have contributed to cover cds for the BBC Music Magazine. Radio 3 has also launched a series of commissions in collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Society specially involving New Generation Artists. Composers so far involved include Simon Holt, Geoffrey Burgon, Augusta Read Thomas and Karin Rehnqvist. Following the scheme's highly successful launch, each year Radio 3 recruits six new artists to the scheme for a two-year period. The New Generation Artists come from a very wide field, and provide a representative cross-section of the most exciting British and international young artists. |
