Owen Dennis - Oboe/Cor Anglais

graphics/dennis.jpg Owen Dennis read Mathematics at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge from 1992 to 1995, graduating with a first class honours degree. During this time, he held the principal position in the University Chamber Orchestra, playing under the direction of many international conductors and soloists such as Mark Wigglesworth, En Shau, Douglas Boyd and Stephen Kovacevik. From 1995 to 1997 he studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Celia Nicklin and Douglas Boyd with awards from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Martin Fund. After graduating with a postgraduate diploma with merit and the Leila Bull prize for oboe, he went to the Rotterdam Conservatoire, where he studied for two years with the international soloist Immanuel Abbuhl.

In 1999 Owen won the wind and brass final of the Royal Overseas League Competition leading to a debut shared recital (recorded onto CD) in the Queen Elizabeth Hall. As a result of this he will also be giving recitals in St Martin-in-the-Fields and St James's, Piccadilly, in the near future.

Having played principal oboe in the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for three years, Owen has recently been accepted onto the LPO desk partnership scheme. He has also worked with the London Pro Arts Ensemble and regularly freelances with the Germany-based Philharmonie der Nationen.

As a member of the Galliard Ensemble Wind Quintet, Owen appears regularly at music societies and festivals including, most recently, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. The Quintet has also appeared in St John's, Smith Square, the Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room.
